The possibility to create a virtual model of the telescope has fundamental benefits along the entire project development: the shielding optimization, the background minimization, the validation of the calibration phase, and the treatment of the observational data sets. Thanks to the progress in Monte Carlo simulations based on particles transport codes (e.g. the Geant4 toolkit), it is now possible to simulate an entire high energy mission. The Bologna Geant4 Multi-Mission Simulator (BoGEMMS), developed at INAF/IASF Bologna, allows to interactively create a 3D model of the telescope, track the particles, record the interactions (e.g. energy deposits), and filter the output as a real observation in space. We present here the BoGEMMS design and its application to both present and future X-ray and Gamma-ray missions.
