The shape of the integrated radio continuum spectra of normal galaxies are analyzed. In particular, after separating the thermal free-free component, the synchrotron spectra exhibit almost invariably a cutoff at GHz frequencies, something that has been overlooked for decades. The derived spectral indices resemble those of supernova remnants below the break frequency. The implications of these findings are briefly discussed.
