XXXIII cycle: possible projects

The PhD program consists mostly of research activity under the supervision of the advisors.

9 PhD positions are available for the XXXIII cycle (2017-2018).

Four positions are  funded by the University of Bologna. The subjects of the PhD theses can be in the various research areas of the Astrophysics section of DIFA. These include: Stars and Stellar populations; Chemistry and Dynamics of stellar systems; Chemistry, Dynamics and Evolution of Galaxies and Interstellar Medium; Active Galactic Nuclei and their environment; Galaxy Clusters, Large-Scale Structure and Cosmology; Astronomical Technology (see the list of the DIFA PhD projects in the downloads).

Three positions are funded by INAF and are devoted to specific projects proposed by the three main INAF institutes in Bologna:

Two positions are funded by ERC grant and devoted to specific projects:

  • MAGNETIC FIELD AMPLIFICATION BY SHOCKS IN GALAXY CLUSTERS -Supervisor: Dr.  Annalisa Bonafede  (INAF- IRA Bologna) PI of the project DRANOEL (Deciphering RAdio NOn-Thermal Emission on the Largestscale) (see downloads)
  • DETECTING THE RADIO SIGNAL FROM COSMIC FILAMENTS -Supervisor: Dr. Franco Vazza – (DIFA-UNIBO), PI of the project MAGCOW-The Magnetised Cosmic Web (see  http://cosmosimfrazza.myfreesites.net/magcow )(see downloads)

Complete application must be received by May 29, 2017. The student selection will be performed in June-July 2017. The selected students will start their activity on November 1st, 2017.
